LOCATION: The Beach House is on the island of Isla Colon in the Province of Bocas del Toro, Panama. It is conveniently located just five minutes from Bocas Town by either car or boat or a brisk half hour walk along the beach.
BY TAXI OR WALKING: To get there by local taxi or walking, take the one and only road leading out of Bocas Town. Just over a mile outside of town, the road splits into two--one gravel road continuing along the sandy beaches toward Bluff Beach and the other a paved road leading to the small community of Bocas del Drago on the other side of the island. The locals call this fork in the road the "Y". (The letter Y is pronounced E-GRE-A-GAH in Spanish.). The Beach House is located on the bay just before the Y. You can tell the taxi driver "the big yellow house just before the Y."
BY PRIVATE CAR FROM ALMIRANTE: If you wish to drive from Panama City or other destinations within Panama, you must depart for the island from the town of Almirante on the northern coast of Bocas del Toro province. Once there, you can leave your car in one of two private parking lots located near the water taxi stations where it will be kept in a locked area until you return from the island. After dropping your car, there are 3 water taxi companies offering rides to the island--Taxi 25, Jampan and Bocas Marine Tours. The cost per person each way is $4 and no reservations are necessary. The last boat to the island is at 6:30pm daily.
If you wish to bring your car with you to the island, there is also a ferry which transports vehicles from Almirante to the Island. It crosses only once a day Monday-Saturday. Hours fluctuate but you can call 6615-6674 for updates and times of departures. The ferry often fills hours in advance so it important to arrive very, very early.
BY AIR FROM SAN JOSE, COSTA RICA: Currently, both Air Panama and Nature Air have flights from San Jose to the island on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. The trip is approximately one hour but remember-- Costa Rican time is one hour later than Panama.
